Message from the Candidate
I have always had a vested interest in LCC. My association with LCC dates back to the early years when LCC was a technical-vocational school. I have always seen the value of LCC and the positive effect it has had on the citizens and the communities it serves. I have seen it grow to a fine institution of higher learning. I had the great opportunity to work at LCC as a college work-study student as the Veteran’s Certifying Official for LCC and NM Highlands. After completing my BA and MA Degrees, I was employed as a counselor/recruiter and Public Information Official. Other duties included Evening Program Coordinator for the then technical-vocational school. I then went to work for private industry, and I continued to work closely with LCC for work-force development and the placement of students in industry.
Because education is a passion of mine, serving as a trustee has been a most wonderful and rewarding experience, it has given me further insight as to the importance of community colleges in our country and especially our community. Community colleges represent the largest enrollment of students in the nation and LCC is a major part of this. LCC continues to make our community a better place because of its existence.
The community has entrusted one of it most valuable resources to the board, education, and I value this to the fullest. Because of the strides and accomplishments at LCC, LCC is the first choice of many students and the first choice of those individuals returning to school. I am proud to be associated with that fact. The recent LCC 10-Year Accreditation with no sight visits was a great accomplishment for our college and a tribute to our administration, faculty and staff, our students and communities LCC serves.
As a trustee, I want to continue to strive to enhance accessibility so that it is possible that students of all ages and backgrounds have the opportunity to attend LCC. I envision LCC continuing to build on its strengths and one being its administration, faculty and staff, and continuing its success in helping students at all levels achieve their goals. I will always advocate for LCC continuing to be affordable, accessible and adaptable.
